Nets Nip Sixers in 2007-08 Season Opener

I have two words for the Sixers and Coach Mo Cheeks:

FOUL SHOTS!

They made 21-32 of their foul shots or 65.6%. The final score was 93-88. They missed 11 foul shots...enough to win the game and then some.

Ugh!

Holy Cow! Holy Cow! Holy Cow!

Did this really happen this weekend? Chicago knocked out the World Championship Heat? The Golden State Warriors beat the tar out of the Mavericks...again?

The Mavericks have never rallied from a 1-3 deficit to win their playoff round. They are as good as packing their saddlebags because of the udder dismantling of Novitski and his hombres by Golden State, the lackluster 40-42 team who squeaked into the playoffs on the last day of regular season.

Un-blinking-believable.

Man, after Baron Davis' half court three-ball at the buzzer, I wish I would have stayed up to watch the second half last night. It was close to midnight, D.S.T. Beauty sleep and all that rot.

Look at these game stats:

Mavericks Warriors
Turnovers: 16 10
Fast Break Pts: 4 25
Biggest Lead: 9 6
Unanswered Pts: 0 2
Points in the Paint: 28 32

The Warriors had fewer turnovers, more fast break points and more points in the paint. More points in the paint than Dallas? Can you believe it?

After all that crowing about the Mavs, Charles Barkley's gonna be eating crow for awhile, forever if the Mavs go down.

Siyonara Heat! You only lasted one round better than my slacking Sixers.

Start packing, Mavs. You'll be the next Goliath to take a tumble.

Un-blinking-believable.

Sixers Nick Knicks at the Garden

So, my Sixers held on to win by two last night at Madison Square Garden. Final score: Sixers 92, Knicks 90. Lucky. Just plain lucky that Stephon Marbury had run out of steam by the final seconds of the game.

That's good. Had they lost that game, Stephen Hunter would have been walking home with Kyle Korver at his side. Korver, the best free-throw shooter in the NBA, missed two crucial free throws at the end of the game.

Mo, your boys better practice their foul-shooting. They've lost too many games because they couldn't hit most of their free throws. Almost lost this one.

A win is a win is a win. Any win against the Knicks is a good one.

Can the Sixers take the Season Series from the Nets?

God... I hope so. Jason Kidd has had 85 career triple doubles. And of course, there's Vince Carter. The Sixers can't let the Nets get out and get a good run.

The Nets need a win tonight. They lost last night against the Pistons--Nets kinda collapsed in the fourth quarter.

Go Sixers!!!

Sixers Ice the Heat--93 to 85

Now that's a pretty W.

Okay, Miami didn't have Dwayne Wade. Or Alonzo Mourning. But they still have Shaq. Shaq is Shaq.

My boys were down 19 in the first half. And came back to defeat Miami on their home court. Comcast named Joe Smith player of the game. He had a ten points and 13 rebounds--a very solid game. I'm proud to be a Sixer fan this evening.

So the Sixers finish out March with 8 wins, 4 losses, winning the season series against the Heat.

Not too shabby. Maybe not spiffy enough for the playoffs. But not a bit shabby.

Seventh Straight Win: Too Little, Too Late for Sixers?

After nailing a perfect homestand, the Sixers headed to Conseco Field House and handled the Pacers for the seventh straight victory. Certainly Jermaine O'Neal being injured helped the Sixers win. Normally they have no answer for O'Neal's dominating play.

Last night everyone contributed. Willie Green lit it up in the first quarter hitting five for six, the other A.I. chipped in 25 points, and this young team made important free-throws down the stretch.

Can the Sixers make the playoffs? Maybe, maybe not. With about a month of regular season play left, they have to rely on other teams like New Jersey and New York losing as much as their own winning. Lately, the Nets and the Knicks have been doing their best to oblige, but everyone expects them both to snap back into playoff-level play.

Go Sixers!

Sixers Top Lakers for Six Straight Wins: Kobe Faces 'New' A.I.

Sure didn't look like it was going to happen in the first quarter. The Lakers started the game with plenty of confidence despite their depleted ranks--no Luke Walton nor Lamar Odom.

But the Sixers got their legs under them and then gave the Lakers a good swift kick in their royal behinds with a solid win, 108-92, that had to be an embarrassing loss for King Kobe and the purple princes of L.A.

Lakers 76ers
Turnovers: 15 7
Fast Break Pts: 10 19
Biggest Lead: 10 16
Unanswered Pts: 0 3
Points in the Paint: 26 36

Maybe Kobe and his cocky cohort were a tad overconfident coming into Philly, now that they had no A.I. to contend with--or so they thought. They were rudely roused out of their complacency by the only A.I. who matters anymore to Sixer fans, Andre Iguodala, arguably, the most improved player in the NBA this year.

Last night's win was their sixth straight and gave my boys a perfect homestand. Sixers haven't won seven straight at home since March 6-30, 2004. Their last six-game winning streak was Nov. 5-16, 2005.

Dare we dream of making the playoffs? Everybody's contributing some offense these days--Andre Miller, Samuel Dalembert, Kyle Korver, Joe Smith. Plus, they look like they're having fun out there for a change.

Dare to dream, I say. Dare away.
